THE BASIS

Going for VPS implies that you have the basic server management knowledge and skills.
There are a few useful links to start:

  • Basic Unix Commands you can find here
  • Linux documentation can be downloaded from here

Additionally to the basis of the OS installed on your server, you need to know some basic information about control panels.
Please refer to the guidelines below to find out more about the control panels we provide:

You will use SolusVM software in order to manage your VPS.
All the login information and links are provided in “Your Virtual Server Details” email.

Detailed SolusVM guide can be found here.

YOUR VPS AND RESOURCES

We offer a number of VPS packages, each with different amount of allocated resources:
• Disk space
• Bandwidth (data transfer)
• CPU
• Memory

It is important to understand that the OS and control panel use some disk space so you will not get 100% usage for your website/files.
You can find out your current resource usage through SSH access. Login using your root password and run the ‘top’ command. This will display results similar to:

    top – 22:48:47 up 12 days, 11:55, 1 user, load average: 0.25, 0.21, 0.40
Tasks: 45 total, 2 running, 41 sleeping, 0 stopped, 2 zombie
Cpu(s): 0.0%us, 0.0%sy, 0.0%ni,100.0%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st
Mem: 524288k total, 143592k used, 380696k free, 0k buffers
Swap: 0k total, 0k used, 0k free, 0k cache

You can also check status of your server resources in your SolusVM control panel.

IP ADRRESSES

Only one IP address is assigned to your virtual server by default. So if you would like to request more IP addresses allowed by quota, please submit a ticket to our Billing department proving us with the reasoning.

SECURITY

Good security practices on your VPS are paramount. As this is a virtualized root environment, a serious compromise could result in a series of unwelcome scenarios including data loss.
Please make sure that:
• all logins are secure (SSH/SSL)
• you regularly check and update all scripts on your VPS
• you practice strong and hard-to-guess password security.

We will initially setup your VPS with a strong password.
It is necessary for you to change it for an equally hard-to-guess one. You are the one to be responsible for your VPS security, however if you happen to be concerned about the security of your VPS or believe you may have a security breach, please urgently contact us via live chat.

BACKUPS

We provide external backup services for the servers that are fully managed, otherwise you will need to handle data backup on your own.

This article covers full cPanel backup creation and restoration process.

You can also schedule automatic backups using the following script.
